The DUKU Silk Scarf is a 90 × 90 cm illustrated silk twill scarf developed as part of Because of War Study 001. The artwork depicts an Asante ceremonial gathering filled with royal court, umbrellas, attendants, elders, regalia and symbolic objects. A border of Adinkra-inspired forms frames the composition, turning the scarf into both a wearable object and a cultural document. Crafted from 18-momme 100% silk twill, DUKU has a structured yet fluid hand, a subtle natural sheen and hand-rolled hems. The artwork is printed on one side of the scarf.
The DUKU Silk Scarf began with the idea of cloth as both image and record. Across generations, scarves and head wraps have functioned as objects of dress, protection, ceremony, communication and identity. DUKU extends that history through an illustrated scene centered on an Asante ceremonial gathering. Royal court, umbrellas, attendants, elders, regalia and symbolic objects occupy the composition. Around them, a structured border draws from Adinkra forms, framing the scene like an archival plate or preserved historical document. The artwork is issued in two interpretations. Durbar preserves the warmth, movement and visual intensity of the gathering through saturated earth tones, saffron, red, blue and gold. Archive removes the ceremonial color and translates the same scene into black, gray and silver. The scarf is crafted from 18-momme 100% silk twill with a single-sided print and hand-rolled hems. Its 90 × 90 cm format allows it to be worn around the head, neck or waist, tied to a bag or displayed as artwork. Each edition is limited to 100 pieces and presented in Study 001 packaging with a research card and collectible insert. DUKU belongs to Study 001, Because of War’s first research-led collection examining how history, movement and conflict create new cultural forms.
18-momme 100% silk twill. Single-sided printed artwork with hand-rolled hems.
